Thanksgiving... What do you have to be thankful for?

This will be my only post this week due to the Holiday.

Every year Thanksgiving comes along and my experience has been people look at it as a day off and use it as an excuse to drink and party. Have we honestly forgotten what the holiday is all about? If you talk to children they will tell you all about the history of Thanksgiving. Adults will tell you what they remember and add their special spin on it.

So, this year please take a moment out of your celebration and ask yourself this simple question, "What do I have to be thankful for?" If you answer it with a laundry list of things you are on the right track. If you have to think about it, then you need to work on it. So, be thankful and have a special holiday and please remember all the Soldiers around the world who cannot be with their families on this holiday.

For those who struggle with what you are thankful for I have listed a few of my own to help you out.
I am thankful for:
My family
My health
My friends
My freedom

Happy Thanksgiving!

Stand on the sidelines or take charge

Well, another ski season is coming and its time to get your ski's tuned up, your winter clothes out and start making your plan to hit the slopes. If you are the die hard skier you are going out this weekend and going to hit the slopes on the man made snow. If you are like most skiers you will wait for the real snow to hit. If you get out there early and take charge and hit the mountains early before the real snow comes your winter season is going to be long. Like most people they will wait and let the mountains get real snow and wait for the perfect weather and perfect conditions. If you live your life like that standing on the sidelines waiting for the good things to happen you are in for a rude awakening. Take charge of your life. If there is something you want ask for it, visualize it, act on it and you shall receive. Those are the rules we live our lives by.

Winter = Workout

The days are getting shorter and its getting darker earlier and earlier. People hibernate through the winter only going outside to go to work, and come home from work. The hanging out with the neighbors has to wait for 6 months until the days begin to be long again. Everyone is putting on extra pounds because they lack the energy to be outside or work out. Depression usually hits the hardest due to the long, cold winter months. This is the life of the average person. Now what does our life look like... We ski 2-3 times a week through winter, work out 4-5 days per week, hang out with our neighbors and friends 2-3 times a month. Weight we usually stay the same or lose more do to the outdoor activities that we do all winter long. Just because it is cold out does not mean you have to hibernate and stay inside. If you think its cold outside and you let it get to you guess what you will hibernate through the winter months. Get outside and do something with yourself, whats the worst thing that could happen...... you have fun.

New way of thinking vs the Old Way of thinking... whose right?

If your current way of thinking has brought you to where you are today, and you are not happy with where you are, then it is time to change your way of thinking. I began a new way of thinking about a year ago and since then my life has grown leaps and bounds. It is similar to the change in the seasons when we take out the winter clothes and put away the summer clothes. I call this winterizing. But if you left your summer clothes out year-round you would be cold during the winter. We constantly live in an environment and world where people want things instantaneously. But what happened to waiting? The old saying goes: "The best things come to those who wait." When I was a kid I did not have a cell phone, I did not wear a seat belt, I did not wear a helmet when I rode my bike. So why is it that today kids have to do or "need" all these things that I didn't and all of them now have ADHD, allergies and other issues that we 30-somethings as kids never had? Is the new way of thinking any better than the old way of thinking? Well, let's see just our whole concept of how we live was developed thousands of years and we have just expanded on an old idea. So do we really have new ideas, or are we just using what others came up with and just putting our own spin on it. Who is right?

Winterizing our House and our Life

We spent this past weekend getting our house ready for the winter. We took our outdoor lights down, cut our plants back, started up the snow blower and many other daunting tasks. Every year we get ready for winter the same way. We put away everything that is not snow-proof and we put it in a safe spot so it is there for us in the Spring. Every year we do this! I am sure you do the same things every year when it comes to winterizing your house. So now the weekend is over and we have done everything we could to get ready for winter. Our summer clothes are put away, our winter clothes are out, our summer decorations are put away and our winter decorations are put up. We spent 2 days getting ready for a change in season. Wow, 2 whole days. As I was driving this weekend running errands I saw a lady out at her house like I did last weekend raking up her leaves. For 2 days last weekend and 2 more days this weekend she spent raking leaves. That is a full 4 days she spent raking her leaves. We will never get that time back that we spent Winterizing our House. And we do this every year and for every season. We are losing countless days that we will never get back. What is my point? People go their whole lives Winterizing everything in their lives, but never Winterizing themselves. When was the last time you took care of your financial future or thought ahead to what your future looks like? It was probably a month ago when the stock market fell apart and your 401k lost a ton of money. What are you doing to Winterize (i.e. PROTECT) yourself, your family, and your future to ensure you have many enjoyable days ahead? If you'd like to find out how we can help you "Winterize" your life, please contact us.
